Speaking Aloud
you just need an excuse
I have an intuition that speaking aloud is really good for you – I could cite this to various Studies, but the reason I believe it is not the studies but my own meandering experiences, so I won't.
If you live or work alone there's often no reason to speak aloud, and I wonder if some of the things that are good for people are partially (though obviously not entirely!) mediated by causing them to speak their thoughts, needs and plans aloud to another Being:
- having pets
- having babies
- having a partner
- working in teams / in person
Perhaps weirdly, I suspect voice-activated technology like Siri or Google or Alexa might also work in a similar manner, giving people an excuse to say their task list or meandering thoughts out loud without feeling crazy, even if they never actually follow up with the digitized version.
For the record: I do not think you should feel crazy talking out loud to yourself, even if nobody at all is listening! Talk to the wall, or a rock, or the microwave.
