Some Foods I'm Into Lately
If that's what you're into
We will all be eating food, God willing, for almost-every day for the rest of our lives. As such, the alpha from discovering new foods you like is exceptionally high. Here are some things I'm into lately, that (depending on your similarity to me) you may be into too.
- Popcorn, as discussed elsewhere in these pages. I recently purchased this 10 variety Amish popcorn pack, presumably on my way to becoming a guy who has extremely specific opinions about every single varietal and would never be seen DEAD eating standard yellow (it's fine as an intro corn! But once you try Ladyfinger....)
- Kize Bars. Energy bars are a difficult category, as best I can tell there is truly no way to get more than ~4 out of natural ingredients / high fiber / reasonable fat / low sugar / tasty / vegetarian. So far, this is my favourite point on the hyperdimensional pareto frontier.
- Microgreens. I'm sorry, this is so far into bobo territory it's beyond parody, but these are so small and tasty and you can add them to anything and if you have willingness and ability to pay ~5x the reasonable price for produce they are delightful.
- Heyday Beans. Speaking of which, it's offensive how obviously and directly this company is targeting vegetarian bobo millenials, and it's offensive that it worked on me, and that I love these beans so much. Try especially the "enchilada" black bean and the "tomato alla vodka" cannellini.
- Teff Porridge. An accidental byproduct of my attempts at popping non-corn grains was discovering you can make teff porridge easily on the stove at home: toast them in the pan for 5 mins, then cover in water and cook for 15-20, for the most deliciously rich and satisfying porridge you'll ever eat. HOWEVER, I'm extremely reticent to recommend anything that involves cooking on a stove, it may shorten your lifespan, so I personally save this as an occasional treat.
- Bob's Red Mill Oatbran. It's like oatmeal but better macros AND cooks perfectly in 2 mins with just boiling water poured over it, no microwave or stovetop required, my dream.
