Just A Number
an age estimator widget
I'm really bad at estimating people's ages, so I made a little quiz to see if I could calibrate myself better. Give it a go here:

years — your systematic bias
Your guess vs. actual age — the dotted line is a perfect guess
How it reads: the big number is your bias — average signed miss. Positive means you guess people older than they are; negative means younger. RMSE is your typical miss size, weighting big errors more. Each round draws a fresh set of faces you haven't seen yet. This is a personal calibration tool, not a benchmark.
It was surprisingly hard to find a set of faces tagged with ages and available for public use, so huge thanks to Lisa DeBruine, Benedict Jones, and all their participants for the Face Research Lab London dataset – genuinely I think the world is defined by a set of choices people make to be unnecessarily generous in ways like these. And thanks to Claude, who did all the coding on this.
