How Do You Discourage Nice But Unwanted Gestures?
It is not the effort nor the failure tires
Sometimes someone gets you a gift that you do not want at all.
And suddenly you're stuck with an awkward tension.
You can act positively about the gift, and therefore risk being given even more of the-thing-you-don't-want in future.
You can say "I'm sorry I don't actually like this gift," and therefore risk having the person feel bad (no matter how nicely you say it and how much they claim not to mind).
